THE
VILLAGE OF PONCE INLET
Florida the way it was!
Ponce Inlet is on the Barrier Island, between the Atlantic Ocean and the
Intra-coastal waterway. Although several miles south of Daytona Beach, it is
certainly as far removed from the Daytona Beach lifestyle as you can possibly
get. The only traffic in the town is local traffic, as route A1A ends at the
Ponce de Leon Inlet at the town’s most southern end. Across the inlet is New
Smyrna Beach but there’s no way to get there from Ponce Inlet except by boat.
So, there’s no through-traffic
Lush green trees and shrubbery, small roads where the highest speed limit in the
entire town is 35 Miles Per Hour! Many roads have sidewalks There’s no Post
Office, a few small stores, some marinas, and several GREAT restaurants. At the
tip of the inlet there's a Marine Wildlife Rescue center, AND, the second
highest lighthouse in the country guides which mariners to the inlet. The
lighthouse is run by the Preservation Society, tour the grounds and climb the
tower for great views from the top with a small admittance fee.
Ponce Inlet is also home to the Lighthouse Point Park and Recreation area, a
Florida state park with beautiful beaches, boardwalks and a large stone jetty
that extends out into the into the inlet. Great for fishing!
Charter boat tours, deep sea fishing, jet-ski rentals, and Para-gliding are also
offered in Ponce Inlet.
Day to day shopping and errands? Across the causeway, is Port Orange,
Florida, home to anything you’d need, large grocery stores, Home Depot, Wal-mart
etc.
